By way of introduction, I've got about 0.5 hours in an RV-6A, I've
set a total of about ten rivets, and changed the oil a few times in
our Comanche. In other words, I've got absolutely no credentials or
reasonable expectation of being taken seriously. But when the first
announcement of the RV-10 came out, I threw away my Velocity
brochures and subscribed to the RVator.
Anyway. My thought is that, since Van's is still 2 years away from
having a kit available, this might be a nice place to collect a wish
list of features. I expect that there will be a great deal of
dissent... but perhaps at least a few common threads, too. So,
without further ado, here are mine to get started:
* - I hope they reconsider their decision to have doors instead of a
slide-back canopy. In addition to having that signature RV look, it's
just nicer - if you've flown a Tiger, you know that canopy is a
pleasant reminder that you're not in Cherokee.
* - While we're thinking about Tigers, borrowing the idea of fold-
down back seats would be a real treat. These are great for long cargo
like skis or bicycles, and the area can also fit sleeping bags for
the romantically inclined.
* - No retractable gear is just fine. Why bother, when the '10 will
most likely significantly outperform my (retractable) Comanche
anyway. Who needs the hassle (and increased insurance premiums).
Anyway, there's my $0.02, for the moment. Anyone else want to throw
in theirs?

I think there's probably a large weight penalty for a sliding canopy
in a 4 seat plane. To provide access to the rear seats, you have to
have a large section without overhead structure. To stiffen the open
structure in this area would require much more aluminum than would a
closed structure. So it's a tradeoff between looks and performance.
I think in the end no one will confuse it with a Cherokee regardless.

They don't need to have the canopy slide that much bigger. Go to your local
Porsche Dealer and hop in the back seat of a Porsche Targa.
I vote for a SLIDING CANOPY with small swing open doors for back seat
entrance and a T-Top for the rear seat area. I love lot's of windows. If
not Gull Wing doors would be nice

Nope, you don't even need anything that complicated. Why not just make a
"Tip Up Slider"?
One builder has already figured it out and it works great! Check out the
picture on my web site and imagine this same setup on a 4 place.

I think you are all out of your minds! Van's is
really building a twin engine, twin tail bomber for
the airforce. The front is the RV-10, because Al
Queda and the Taliban would never think of a small
homebuilt aircraft manufacturer would be a military
target.
The RV-10 will not be available to us. It's all a
conspiracy. These are the same people who killed John
F. Kennedy.

NO, NO, NO!
I wasn't supposed to tell you all this, but I guess since Van has a page
on his site now, I will let the cat out of the preverbal bag...
Van and I are collaborating on a new fighter... The RV-82! Although we
have extensive specifications for this bird, the only thing I can share
with you right now is this rendering of the prototype... This image was
drawn up before any armament was added...

Sorry, Bill. I didn't think that you would come
forward with this, but I guess it is too late now. I
need to learn to keep my mouth shut!
Well, since it is out, the version of Kitlog that is
currently out is an encrypted military targeting and
navigation software that is being used to distribute
to all the equipped RV's of Van's Airforce. Some of
you know who you are, others have no idea what I am
talking about. Let's leave it that way.

Also, notice the nomenclature: RV-82 = RV8+2 = RV-10.
Coincidence? I don't think so. Conspiracy?
Perhaps.
