Unfortunately we are not going to be arriving at Oshkosh until Friday
morning so we'll miss the 10 forum. Someone take good notes and post
them. Especially any hints about price and availability. :)

I attended this forum in Arlington last week. I'll be in Oshkosh as well.

As far as price and availability you will not get an answer. They are still
working on what the cockpit shell will be comprised of (probably fiberglass) as
well as several factors not in the current RVs. Sliding adjustable seats and
other 4 place aircraft additions. What they did say is that it will be a very
affordable 4 place aircraft (implied comparison to Express, Lancair, etc.
Current RV-7A price times 1.8? is my best guess). As far as availability they
are hoping to fly by middle of next year (plus or minus 6 months). As you can
see a lot of the details of the aircraft are complete and a lot are not yet
decided upon.

Maybe Oshkosh will offer more info but I doubt it.

Possibly not all aluminum, hmm.... I hope you're wrong about the
price. My guess is $22,500 for the kit. Of course it's all just
speculating, but while i'm (we're) waiting to see might as well guess.

Maybe without the finish kit, yes. I bet the finish
kit is going to come close to $8,000 Too much
fiberglass and plexiglass for it to be cheap. I know
that an RV-6 canopy is $900 just by itself, and that's
part of a $5,000 finish kit.

Also, remember how much engineering is going into this
project compared to the others. The 7 already had a
wing and a tail, and the fuse wasn't much different
from the -6. The -10 is a whole new ball of wax. New
wing, new tail, new fuse, not to mention not as much
stuff to "borrow" from the other airplanes. I
wouldn't be surprised if Van built in some engineering
expense into this one. Even if it is a $30,000 kit,
it would be a bargain considering the 2 place plastic
airplanes are that much. One could build a moderately
equipped -10 for $80-$90K I bet. I'm sure by the time
I get through putting all of my toys into it, I'll be
at $100K.

I agree - $30k would be very reasonable. My wife swears that I'll be
coming home from OSH with a tail, but I keep telling her it's not ready
yet... honest<g>.

One thing that's kind of interesting is that we all seem to be ready to
plunk down some fairly serious change on a design that's not even fully
off the drawing board yet, let alone flying. Now I agree that Van's
reputation is sterling... can't say I'd feel the same level of
confidence if the first letters were BD instead of RV. But who here
would be willing do share their feelings about committing somewhere
between $50 and $100k, along with several years of their life, before
taking the first article at least once around the patch?

Yep. Goes to show the faith in Van's airplanes. I
had never had a ride in a -6, yet I bought a kit. It
wasn't until I was about 1 year into the project
before I actually got a ride. Granted the design was
proven, but nevertheless, I hadn't had a ride in any
RV. With the -10, I think I'd like to take a ride,
but if I don't, assuming I like the test data (Which
is were Van is VERY accurate) and the looks, room,
etc, I think I could make the commitment without
flying it. Since I've built and flown an RV, so I
know what to expect. That is enough confidence for
me.

Or, you could twist my arm to go take a ride in the
RV-10 demo plane. Actually, I think I will do that.
And I'll take my wife with me, so she can be excited
about it when we spend the money!!
