I will be a first time builder too (probably an RV-7 though) but for you
guys that are concerned about your ability to build a safe plane, let me
give you my thoughts on the matter. First I have a little bit different
perspective, I'm not an engineer but I have worked with them and done
design work on several projects. So I feel pretty comfortable in my
ability to build an RV that is a safe plane. I even feel comfortable
making a few minor modifications to the design. I have the Preview
plans and I can tell you that from what I have seen, I don't think the
average person that has the wherewithal to get a pilots license will
have any problem building a safe plane. This isn't rocket science, and
Vans has done a very good job designing a plane that is fairly straight
forward to build. You will probably come to points where you get
stumped on how to do this or that part, but with the help of this list
and near by builders, I don't think anyone will have a problem building
any of Vans planes. And to all you first time builders who wonder if
they have what it takes; I wouldn't hesitate to fly in your plane after
it is finished, because of your concern you are probably going to be
much more careful than people like me who feel more confident.
