To install #8 nutplates:
Drill a #30 hole everywhere you want a nutplate. Cleco (a copper-colored
cleco) a nutplate through the nutplate and into the hole (on top of the
material, so you can see the nutplate). Then come back with a #40 and drill
one side hole of the nutplate all the way down, and cleco those holes. Go
back down the line and drill the other hole. Remove all your clecos and
deburr.
Then you do have to drill out the #30 (middle) hole because it's not quite
big enough for a #8 screw.
This technique works well, it's fairly fast, and it saves you $38 on a
nutplate jig.
