I think Mike makes a good point that using the proven Lycoming--
antiquated though it may be--makes more sense in the SHORT TERM,
especially if you can rebuild one yourself with the help of an A&P.
1. What the is a realistic price for a 210-260hp overhauled engine
for the non-"rebuild-it-yourselfer"? (e.g. ME)
2. How much less would an engine with, say, 800-1000 hours (with
potentially signifcantly additional life) on it cost?
How many of the current -10 builders have already priced this out and
got firm estimates? I'd definitely be interested in all those who
actually have.
I'm just guessing, but a "new" 250-ish hp engine from Van's must cost
signifcantly more than the $33,000 Vans charges for a 200hp producing
I0-360, so a rebuild or mid-time would definitely have to be in my
future to make a "go" (literally and figuratively) of the -10.
