In selecting my primer I noticed that Variprime/Nason needs to have a
sealer topcoated over it, if left unsealed it will absorb moisture! Thought
I would pass it on. Mark

Yes, this is true. I used Variprime on the empennage and wing kits of my
RV8 and did not use any top sealer. This primer is popular around here, so
I just joined the club and used it. Of course, here in New Mexico, humidity
is rarely a concern! It pays to read the fine print and follow
manufacturer's specs for use. Once I realized I wasn't quite following the
directions, (nor did I want to further complicate the priming process even
more), I switched to Marhyde, which is single stage (no mixing, just pour
and shoot...or use spraycans) and finished out the project with it. Really
though, I think the whole priming issue is totally overblown as to
importance on an alclad airframe. I'm not going to anywhere near the
extremes of priming on my RV10, just spraying zinc chromate or phosphate on
the mating surfaces only, or parts that are bare alloy.

These airframes will outlive all of us anyway, regardless of whether you use
primer or not.
