Having never built a set of wings, I have a dumb question... what
brackets, widgets, wires, pipes, etc. should be installed in the
wings *before* they get buttoned up? I watched a built-it video that
showed a pvc-like pipe installed to run wires. Now I know it
couldn't have really been pvc (right?), but what are folks planning
to use as conduit if anything?

That conduit you saw really IS pvc! It works great and is dirt cheap via the
aviation department at Home Depot. The thin walled stuff..schedule 20 I
think it is...is fine. You can also use corrugated plastic conduit that
Van's sells, or can be found at Rad Shack or, yet again, aviation electrical
department at Home Depot. Whatever works for you. If you are undecided
about what electro-goodies you may want out in the wing tips, or want easy
flexibility to change your mind down the road, a conduit is a must. You
simply drill out the wing ribs with a unibit and glue in the conduit or
anchor it with wire ties somehow. Install a pull string to yank your
cables/wiring with yet another string attached to THEM if you ever want to
do this again, and leave the string in there for posterity.
Other concerns to think about for the wings are the pitot tube
mounting....stock per plans or heated variety? The heated pitots are
heavier and require a beefier base for mounting. Might have to add a
stiffener plate to mount it. Decide what you're going to do here early in
the game.
Fuel level senders: float type are typically spec'd on the plans. The
capacitive senders are installed in the tanks differently, but not sure just
how yet. In fact, I don't think there ARE any capacitive senders for the
-10. Give it time.
Landing/taxi lighting: If you want them installed in the wing leading
edges, you get to hack big ole holes your wings! You can install just one,
or two. I have only one halogen lamp in the left wing of the -8, and find
it adequate for night ops, but two would be better for sure. I'll probably
go with the wing tip high intensity lamps right alongside the nav lights
under the lenses in the wingtips. Makes for a cleaner wing leading edge.
Another nifty safety idea is a wig-wag flasher to alternate these lamps.
You can really see these things from miles away even in bright daylight.
Excellent for use on long finals or difficult lighting conditions so nobody
pulls out onto the active ahead of/below you.
The plans won't let you close up your wings without the bare minimum of
stuff that needs to go in there, so don't sweat it. A set of tank dimple
dies is good to have for the tanks. They dimple a wee bit deeper to allow
for sealant buildup. I didn't use these (didn't know about them) when I
built my tanks and have some rivets that don't sit down as flush as they
should. I think Avery sells these.
Have fun!
