Just a note of interest, the Beech Starship used a ply of hybrid
woven carbon and steel fiber as the first ply down in the mold (the
outer mold surface of the airplane) to conduct a lightning strike out
to the wicks. Much certification testing proved it worked quite well.
The airplane as a whole was quite inspectable for damage as long as
you could get NDI probes to the suspect area. Many think it was the
strongest production GA airframe ever built.
By the way I enjoy the contributions from the pro's. They bring
valuable experience and insite to the discussion. And Brian, I enjoy
your spirited contributions as well.
