Oshkosh visitors:

Did Innodyn have a booth there at the show? Did anyone get a
chance to talk to them? We're really intrigued by the turbine, but
need to research some more on questions like:
a) Fuel consumption
b) cost of mount, cowl, prop, etc.

Anyone gather any more information?

P.S. Was going to try and fly over from Michigan in a rental Cessna
just for a day visit. On startup, engine went to 1500 RPM and
stayed there. Throttle movement had no effect. Pushing it back
toward the hanger, a bolt fell out of the bottom of the cowl! I'm
glad that didn't happen on my rental checkout flight the night
before, or I might still be in a celery field . . . .

Hi,

The Innodyne is pretty sweet. There was actually a big tadoo about the
turbine. While I was walking around I heard the announcer that foes all the
aerobatic announcing and the other goodies say, "everyone, come and see what
Innodyne turbine has in store for all the RV builders"..Basically said that,
I guess not word for word but close enough. I wonder if Van heard it.He
probably would cringe. He likes us to stick with the plan. I walked to the
field to watch and they had an RV4 take off while reps from the Innodyne
team talk about their turbine while the rv flew overhead. That plane sounded
sweet. I love the sound of turbines and it was pretty cool seeing a RV
flying with one. I was amazed by it actually. I know there has been some
discussion about the power plant on the boards and it was pretty
interesting. They spoke about having a power plant for up to the needed 255
horsepower RV10 for a price around 34,900. Thy also talked about the company
that is providing the firewall forward package for them.

I had a blast.IU never ended up bumping into any 10 builders unfortunately
but I finally got to physically see the plane I am building. This was the
first time seeing it for me. I did speak to many potential builders which
were fun and I also got to meet J.T. Helms from Nation Air insurance. They
have prepared a builders policy for me and it was nice to finally meet them.
I am dealing with Aaron over there which is now taking the Vanguard program
since J.T. needed some help since they are growing. They told me they have
over 1100 policies for RV'ers now.

Anyway, the Innodyne display was cool. I didn't talk with them but was
amazed by the RV with the motor in it that I saw flying while they
introduced it to everyone watching the air shows. It seemed very powerful or
sounded that way at least. Very cool!!! I am not any type of power plant
expert at all. I am learning as I go being a first time builder but that
engine sounded so nice! I know I am repeating myself but it was awesome!

Happy building,

James McClow

It will probably be a good solution for those who do a lot of cross
country flying. But if I understand properly, which I may very well
not, the high fuel consumption on the ground may make it impractical
for sport flyers who do a lot of short hops. My understanding is
that once the turbine fires its fuel consumption is relatively
constant as the turbine turns a very high RPM even at idle. Again, I
may be wet.

I love it.you have me figured out. Man, this is a tough crowd.LOL I am the
typo master, high energy usually.

I am looking at the pics Jim Cinlexky ands I saw a few guys that I saw in
the hangars while looking at all the stuff for sale that had the rv10
t-shirts on and now I see them in the pics Jim posted. I was going to just
interrupt their conversations and ask them if they where builders but just
kept moving instead figuring I would hang at the Vans booth mostly and talk
to people and get tips. I wanted to see a few things on the flying 10 that I
was questioning on my build which I did. Man it was a major brain overload.
So many people there.I am disappointed that I didn't get to meet anyone but
I am grateful that you all got me there. I am so glad I decided to go at the
last minute.

When I got back there was a surprise here. I wasn't to surprised and didn't
know if I was mad or ok with it but most of you all know our Maltese puppy
passed on Fathers day this year. He was my hangar puppy and part of the
family. We went out a couple of weeks later and bought two new Maltese 8
week old puppies. One being a Tea Cup (very, very small) and a regular sized
one. It was a sad time but we thought it best to get a new puppy.well, two
new puppies. When I got home at 1am from the airport my wife was saying she
had a surprise for me. I had no idea what it could possibly be and just
thought how excited I was to get home and work on my wings.

Well, to my surprise she had gone out and bought another dog, I was a little
freaked out at first when walking in being a bit tired and cranky from the
crappy delays on United. She went on to say it is for me since the Maltese
puppies seem to be indoor puppies unlike Casey was. Casey spent every minute
with me and saw, me through the tail section build of the plane. I know this
is weird but it is weird how attached you get to these dogs. He is a puppy
Italian Greyhound. I added photos on yesterdays logs online (8.1.04). I was
not sure if I was mad or happy about it. She had named him Romeo Victor or
Romie for short. Or RV for short she said, its up to m. She basically pawned
the though of getting him for me : ) Funny how that works huh. He is a
beautiful puppy with a show mother and father professionally bred which led
me to the next question. How much! I can't get the nerve to tell you all.it
is more than half of what I spent on the Empee though! That I freaked about
because she took the cash from my side of the mattress and THA plane money!
But, being together for 17 years makes mine hers : ) I am happy now and love
this dog. He is on my hip always unlike the new Maltese. So, Romeo 'romie'
is my new co-pilot!

Happy Building!

Yes the sound was sweet but did you see how slow it was! I dont think it
was going over 130 Kts. If you are going to show off your plane with a new
engine you really need to push the performance a little. The climb out was
flat and the speed slow. There must still be issues still. Anyone care to
enlighten?
