Finally back from the "Show"

Wow, LOTS of stuff to see.

I posted pictures to

www.infra-read.com

You might have to refresh the link to pick up the link.

Enjoyed listening to Van talk about the -10.

Couple of comments about the pictures:

(1) The holes at the rear of the fuselage are not part of
the "Production" airplane. Those holes are left over as a by-
product of mounting the parachute for spin testing.

(2) The vent at the top rear of the cabin is not going to be there
either. Seems that keeping water out was a bit of a problem. They
have another solution for getting fresh air into the cabin. I am
not sure what that is.

(3) I also took a look at the Delta-Hawk engine. Pictures are up on
the same site. I didn't get a look at any of the turbines. My
fault, just way too much to try and see!

Enjoyed meeting everyone at the -10 forum afterwords. Great bunch
of people. I couldn't find James though! :) Very glad you made it
to see the real thing. Did you get a ride in it?

Hi Jim,

Yea, I hung out at the vans booth for ever but never ended up meeting
anyone. I saw one guy that looked like Tim from pictures I have seen and I
asked him and his wife and they started speaking French and looking at me
like I had two heads which I wrote off to not understanding what I was
saying being a Bostonian with the 'caaaar' accent that I have. I live in
Florida but sound like a New Englander. It was actually funny though, the
wife looked at me and said 'eh' and understood me I think but the guy was
thinking something else I think. LOL

On Wednesday when I got to the booth finally after looking for it for a
couple of hours I saw two guys there. One looked like Jay Brinkmeyer and the
other had a RV10 shirt on and had a beard. I didn't recognize him and I am
not sure if that was even Jay. He had jumped underneath the plane while I
was there showing people something. If that was you Jay I am sorry I didn't
get to introduce myself. I was a bit worn out Wednesday and almost to quiet
which changed after a good night sleep. I actually went back to my room both
nights at 7pm and fell right to sleep waking up at 6am both days. I woke up
to the movie boiler room on the TV still clothed and freezing. I forgot to
shut the air off but then again I hadn't planned on falling asleep at 7pm
either. I was going to go to some club near the college called Kelly's
but.guess I needed to sleep! A ton of walking!

I spoke with a ton of potential new builders and found myself feeling like I
had some ownership in Vans. It was cool really.I spoke with Ken Scott for
quite a while on Thursday and missed a few calls. I usually have my phone on
vibrate and Tim had called a bunch and I tried him a few times to no avail.
Phone tag. I was in awe!!!! That place was very cool. How bout those air
shows huh. Thanks for asking about me Jim, I appreciate it. I got back Friday
night and started in on the wings Saturday. Over 15 hours work this weekend
and it looks like I did nothing on the wings. Just a ton of nut plates
installed which I updated on my logs.

It was fun!

James,

I ended up traveling along with two EAA buddies. They accused me of
being a yo-yo. Whenever we had a "OK, Got a few minutes before the
next forum, where too?" I always wanted to swing back by the RV-10.

Ended up visiting on four different occasions. But I didn't talk
much to anyone around the airplane. I should have just hung aroound
for a while and would have met more builders.

Have to wait till next year at this point. Still had a great time
and got to see lots of new stuff.

Next year, we will have to plan a meeting place and time (for every
day!) to get the group together.

I am sure there will be several -10s fly to the event next year!

Hi,

Funny that you say you bounced back and fourth to the vans booth. I did the
same thing. I couldn't get enough of it. I just read that one person showed
up at the booth on Saturday and the 10 was out giving demo rides. I guess I
should have stayed until Sunday as was planned. I had to leave Friday and
changed my plans late Tuesday night just before flying out there on
Wednesday morning. I had a blast either way. I did talk to a bunch of people
who where interested in building the 10. It made me feel good to hear that.
I just thought to myself.cool, I am building one already and am already
working on the wings. I personally am having a blast on this thing. I have a
major problem today however. I cannot find my cleco gun anywhere. I think I
may have bent over to stop my puppies from fighting or something and freakin
dropped it out of my pouch. I wear a construction pouch while working so I
don't have to go to the table every second to get a tool or cleco's. I just
fill the pouch. Can you believe I only have one 5 dollar cleco gun. Here I
am with thousands of dollars in tools and only one cleco gun. Heck, I even
have two torque wrenches but only one lost cleco gun. Damn! Now what! I am
going to search the yard after I drop the kids to their first day of school
this morning.
Talk to you soon!!!

See ya,

James

Sounds like you need a little cheese with your whine there James, I will admit to my cleco gun but I have a bum hand...not big and strong like you...and those puppies are sooo cute. Now get in that mini van of yours and get those kids to school Mom...I mean Dad. ;D

Macy's is having a Skirt sale this weekend BTW.

PS- You would be done with those nut plates if you spent your camera money on a pneumatic squeezer!!!!! Try it, you'll find it quite handy....and you'll never go back to the hand squeezer unless you need too!!!!
