Folks,
First time to the list. My wife and I test flew the RV-10 at OSH. She
went first in the front right with me in the back right seat. Impressive
is an understatement! After her 20/30 minute flight we returned to the
"loading area" and it was my turn. Same exciting thing for me at the
controls. She did 30 degree turns so I figured I'd do 60 degree
turns. The first one was to the right. There was only one problem. It
was pilot induced (me). The nose lowered about 5 degrees and we were
accelerating towards supersonic. I was definitely behind the pitch
thing. Ken Scott warned me that the ten was "pitch sensitive" and then
told me to do one to the left, but to watch the pitch attitude. This one
and subsequent turns were a snap. Also, the slow flight was truly
incredible with fully function controls down to the stall. Application of
power at the full stall allowed the plane to fly out with about an initial
1600 FPM rate of climb. Those that have also flown the ten, please pass on
to me your experience., I want to make sure that my head wasn't too far
into the clouds!
Upon return to the airfield, my wife marched over to the Innodyn tent and
purchased their 255 HP turbine. Now when I say my wife did it, I mean
it. She's a newly minted pilot but knows a good bargain when she sees
one. Innodyn has already purchased the ten kit and is well on the way to
getting it ready for the engine. Also, Greg over at Blue Mountain has one
on order, so we figure by the time we are ready for the engine and the
electronics, the bugs will be worked out.
Check out www.innodyn.com for further information. One last thing, we
walked over to the Van's tent with our concerns for this powerplant. Ken
was standing there and concurred that the only two concerns were weight and
balance and fuel consumption per hour. (Also, he didn't like the current
cowl on the RV-6 River's had on display.). The ten has the battery in the
"trunk" so moving it forward to the mount should help. Also, dual
electrical busses are planned for obvious reasons. This should help with
some additional weight up front,
We're building a hangar this fall and will order our kit hopefully by
February or March of next year. Good luck to all already out there with
their kits.

Oh you weren't "in the clouds". It's an amazing airplane! I flew it in Las
Cruces last year and felt right at home. It's pure RV in it's handling
characteristics....just not as agile as the two seaters. It still turns on
a dime, takes off like a rocket and is totally groovy down final. My wife
was also completely sold on it purely from the interior roominess. At 5'2",
she disappears in it! Next words from her were "anybody wanna buy an RV8?"
Oh well, somethings gotta give. The -10 ain't gonna be cheap. But it will
be worth every penny.
I'm most interested in how the turbine works out in the RV's. My concerns
mirror that of Van's...wt/bal and fuel burn. Serious issues for sure.
There are sound reasons why turbines haven't made it into the light aircraft
world thus far: Weight, cost, fuel burn, and lawyers all conspire to keep
us chugging along on squeeze/bang/blow motors!
Welcome to the RV10 world. You're among great company!

Wow, your wife went and bought the turbine.Geeez, you have a lot of guys
thinking right now I am sure including me. It is a great package from
looking in from the outside. I want to wait until they do all the testing
they can and didn't know they had a 10 underway. That is going to be very
interesting. I am still blown away that your wife went over and wrote the
check just like that, pretty impressive to say the least! Awesome to say
more! LOL. Good luck with the new plane! I am on wing construction now and
have looked hard at the Crossflow 250 and 300 HP and spoke again with them
on Friday but also the Lycoming 260 with a supercharger or turbo normalized
is on my mind too. The turbine seems killer but I am not an experienced
enough pilot/builder to know what I am looking at with these options without
feedback from actual builders/owners and hard numbers. I may even slow my
build down to give enough time to wait it out and watch what the 2nd timers
are doing and what the future will bring on future options. Air conditioning
is a must in my airplane! I have to have it or I don't want it. It is just
too darn hot here in west central Florida to do this without! Heck, I still
want the egg subi. But I will settle for a 260 lyc supercharged with a fadec
system and grand rapids dual screen panel. Garmin 430 or 530 to also drive
the Grand Rapids GPS interface and have nav/com all included which will also
interface with the GR glass panel. I was totally bought in on the blue
mountain until researching more on the GR dual panels like the Chelton but a
1/3 of the price. Right up my alley especially with a Dynon back up. Its all
about the safety and financial outlay. Heck, I may end up broke and using
gyros.LOL. Well see. Good luck! I am anxious to see what transpires with
your build. Hopefully you will get a site put up on it.
Good luck,

Mike Howe here. I just finishing up my Tailcone and about ready to start
my wings. Check out my online builders log at
http://www.etigerrr.com/RV10HomePage.htm. I have been following the
turbine for quite some time and am too very interested in the prospect
of the new group that is developing it. Some one suggested if we all
continue to express an interest to the company it might be helpful in
letting them know there are a lot of RV-10 builders interested in this
engine.
