Home -> RV-10 topic: Innodyne question

I'm a newbie to this group once again after taking a 3 month break
from 200+ (I subscribe to several RV groups on Yahoo) e-mails
daily. I have always just been a watcher and have never really
taken part in the discussions on these boards because I am not yet
working on an RV, or any plane for that matter. Now, I'm planning
on starting a -10 this fall/winter if funds and wife allow. It just
broke my heart to hear Jan from Egg Subie announce that the engine
for the -10 has been put on the back burner until they can catch up
on their other engines. I have followed that group closely and
studied his engines and would have loved to have one of them in my
plane, like many other -10 builders.

Anyhow, back to why I'm posting. The Innodyne turbine that has been
discussed on here a little has my eyebrow raised. Hopefully the
engine will prove itself and the guys can get a FWF package ready
for a -10. My question: does a pilot still have to have 1000 hours
to get a LOA to fly a turbine in an experimental??? Or does any of
that stuff even apply to the homebuilt industry??? I'm a pilot
going on 12 years now but still have very little time (175 hours)
due to having to drive up to 2 1/2 hours round trip to rent a
plane. I realize that my time frame for needing an engine is a long
ways off but this question popped into my head the instant I heard
about the Innodyne.

Who knows, maybe by the time I'm ready for an engine there will be
lots of choices.

Thanks,
Bill Britton
