Thought I'd pass along my experience with ABF delivering my fuselage
crate. First, this box is BIG: about 4' x 4' x 8' and heavy. I had
two different discussions with them about the logistics of unloading
and was assured that there wouldn't be a problem.
Liftgate truck showed up however the crate was loaded lengthwise into
the truck and there wasn't enough room to turn it and get it on the
liftgate. He also didn't have any sort of palette jack to move the
crate. They got the crate into the truck by putting it on a set of
palettes and using a forklift.
Turns out that this was actually a stroke of luck. The driver
suggested unloading the crate from the truck and that he'd haul it
off for the trouble. It didn't take too long and he hauled off both
the crate and a HUGE amount of paper packing which saved me a lot of
time and effort later. I seem to recall somebody else recommending
unloading directly from the truck - highly recommended!
I won't get a chance to look closely at the parts until this weekend
but first impressions of the fuselage top are that it's very high
quality. Windscreen is also much thicker/heavier than I expected -
looks to be formed from 1/4" plexi.

Thanks. It's been a money spending week - I also purchased a low

Yea, but what's left? Some building and some avionics.. This is fantastic!
You are almost there. I am jealous ! Have fun this weekend! I have been
staring at Randy's fused pics and I love how Scott has his canopy clecoed to
his tail cone in his shop pictured on his smug mug photos. Looks like they
had a fuse party. It gets me pumped up and ready to order. I have an add in
the port Charlotte Sun Herald for a used or new motor as well. I am
advertising for a low time Lyco IO-540 260 HP. Who knows, I was trying not
to sound to morbid in my classified but they have so many damaged planes
there I know I saw my engine on the news LOL!
I just got a couple of quotes back for avionics packages from vendors I met
at Osh. I just can't get over how much this stuff costs. I am sure I can do
it for half if I wire it and buy it myself but it sure would be nice to get
a crate in the mail that's worth 60,000 and ready to wire into my new
cockpit!.I am posting them tonight to my home page for others to have a
look. They even created rendering with cad with the exact layout. One with
Chelton dual screens and the other with Grand Rapids dual screens. I want
fadec and EFIS.
Hope you enjoy your weekend messing with your new fuse! I bet it has been an
expensive week.

James,
I've been looking at those same pictures. I still have some work
left on my wings before I get to that stage though...
I've been doing a bit of head scratching about avionics myself, just
too many choices out there. I'm going to try to find folks that
already have the equipment installed and bum rides to see what it's
like to actually fly behind each. The higher end stuff might require
rides in Lancairs but we all have to make sacrifices!
