Hi All,
MT Propeller now has a MTV-12-B 3 blade propeller specifically designed for
the RV-10 with a Lycoming 540 engine.
This is a 45 pound propeller and spinner. About 20 pounds lighter than the
Hartzell 2 blade propeller and spinner.
Take off, climb and cruise speed should be the same, or better, than the 2
blade Hartzell propeller.
However, the really big advantage of the 3 blade MT Propeller (besides
weight) is how smooth a Lycoming 540 runs. (Running a Hartzell 2 blade and an MT
Propeller 3 blade propeller on a Lycoming 540 in a HR2 proved this to me. It
was like we had installed an electric motor in the cowl when we ran the 3
blade propeller.)
I am offering this propeller and spinner for $7,100 plus shipping and, if
applicable, sales tax.
This price is available for a short time. Possibly only for the next four
propeller sold.
Even though Van's Aircraft doesn't offer this MT Propeller yet, Van's
Aircraft does offer an MT Propeller (MTV-12-B) for the Lycoming 360. (Van's price
of $8,060 becomes $7,780 when the shipping charges are excluded.)
Price subject to change without notice.
Please contact me directly, unless you feel the information you request
would be of general interest to this group.

What concerns are there about storing a CS prop for a long period of
time (1-2 years)? Also, does is require anything special about the
governer or are they all functionally the same?

Hi Bob,
MT Propeller has a two year warrantee. They allow up to one year for this
warrantee to start. There are no life limited parts in an MT Propeller.
The MT Propeller MTV-12-B propeller are functionally the same to the
standard hydraulic governor.
MT Propeller has a governor that is about the smallest and lightest package
available. I can offer a new MT governor for $1,000, when ordered with the
propeller. It would be shipped with the propeller, so there would be no
additional shipping charge for the governor.

What is the diameter? TBO? What considerations in regard to the
engine do we need to take into consideration?
Thanks!

Hi Andrew,
The diameter is 193 cm, or 76".
The time TBO is 72 months.
The operation hours TBO varies.
If the propeller starts with a 1000 hour TBO; when your propeller approaches
1000 hours the current TBO is then looked up in Service Bulletin 1. At that
future date, the operation hour TBO could be anywhere from 1000 to 2500
hours.
There's nothing special that you need to do to mount this to the engine.
Mount the cowl 1.5" forward of the propeller hub mounting on the ring gear.
The propeller hub bolts directly to the ring gear/engine propeller flange.
The MT governor mounts directly to the governor pad.
The 13" diameter spinner is already assembled to the propeller.
There is one important consideration to deal with, though. You will need to
choose your colors.
There are five standard colors for the blades and spinner.
White, Red, Yellow, Black and Gray.
Common combinations are:
White blades with Red tips. (Traditional MT Propeller colors)
Black blades with Yellow tips. (Previously a CAA requirement.)
Gray blades with White tips. (Preferred for IFR flying.)
There is also one non-color. If you haven't decided on a paint scheme, or
the colors offered don't match your paint scheme, you can have the spinner
delivered in PRIMER.
Customs colors are available for an extra cost of $350.
The kevlar/epoxy spinner is also available painted in the appearance of a
polished aluminum spinner for $500 extra.
Probably more than you really wanted to know at this time. But what the
heck. :-)

Hi TDT,
The MTV-12-B propeller is hydraulic controlled constant speed propeller.
It's controlled just like any other certified hydraulic constant speed
propeller.
I feel like I'm missing something here. Maybe I don't understand your
question?
MT Propeller manufacturers certified CS aircraft propellers. Just like
Hartzell and the McCauley company.
The difference is: MT Propeller has the capability to custom design their
propeller blades for each specific application.

No, that was the question. I just didn't know if it was hydraulic or
electric control on the CS prop . .

MTV-12-B is hydraulic for sure. MTV-18 series is electric. see www.
mt-propeller.com
If you can run it, hydraulic is better than electric due to faster
pitch changes. Also, constant speed operation for electric requires
a motor/control system to vary pitch. I think this is more
complicated than a hydraulic governor.
I suspect most (if not all) IO-540 engines will work with a C/S
hydraulic prop. You could also use an electric, but you would be
better off with hydraulic.
