Home -> RV-10 topic: Predator Aviation - Response

Based on this thread I sent an email to Predator and was surprised to
get such a quick response back. I didn't ask about te turn-key RV
but mostly asked for more data on the engine. The response from
Chris is as follows:

"Sure Tom, I will compile and send as soon as our move to larger
facility's in Boise is over (about two weeks) This will then include
Flight data and ECM downloads from longer cruise settings at 15,000
ft msl. Could you send me a link [to this thread] as I would like to
see some of the remarks for myself. The LS1 weighs 330 lbs as
delivered in crate the IO-360 weighs 348 per Lyc. website The
installed Firewall forward weight for the LS1 is 538lbs as tested.
When compared to the tension forces applied to the mounts and
firewall under 3 g's the tortional shear as the result of power
becomes negligible. Of some initial concern were the aerodynamic
forces as seen by the empennage, however these fears proved to be
unfounded due largely to the fact that Van designs a phenomenally
rigid and very strong aircraft. I look forward to presenting you with
a complete and comprehensive flight performance profile."

It appears that the weight discrepancy brought up is due to a
misunderstanding of what is being quoted. The "within 10 pounds of
Lyc" is the weight of the basic engine while the 538lbs is the weight
of the entire firewall forward solution including the air conditioner
and everything else. I don't know how this compares to the full
firewall forward weight of a Lyc solution.

Anyway, hopefully Chris will give us some more data and perhaps start
a Predator group on this site. The more options we have the better
off we will all be.

Is this the Predator group that was at the Glendale airport in Arizona? I
saw the RV7 with the vette engine. this was last Christmas. Met both of the
Chris's and they were about ready to fly the plane. Then they were looking
for someone who they could build a RV10 for. Haven't talked to them since.
Interesting that they are moving to Idaho.
