Hello again. I'm still a lurker but hope to have my tools and RV10
emp kit ordered before the end of the year. I just have a quick
question. Is anybody using the RV tool kit from Aircraft tool and
Supply??? If so, I was just wondering if they are satisfied with
their purchase, or if they wish they would have gone with the tool
kit from Avery or Cleveland. I have nothing against Avery or
Cleveland but right now the tool kit from Aircraft Tool and Supply
is on sale for $1250 (I think) which is considerably less than
either of the other suppliers. I was brought up with the
understanding that "you get what you pay for". If the avery or
cleveland kit is that much better than this one then I have no
problem purchasing one of their kits. Just trying to save a few
bucks so I can spend it on some other goodies for the plane.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. You can either e-mail me
directly or post here on the RV10 group site.
Thanks,
Bill

I purchased my tools from a varity of sources. First while I was
finishing my shop, I started aquiring used tools from local RV
builders in my EAA chapter. Then What I couldn't buy used I purchased
from suppliers. Panamerican tools is the best source for clecos,
bits, countersinks and many small tools. Just shop around for the
tools you aren't able to buy used. I also bought a group of tools on
Ebay for 49.00 + about 8.00 shipping that included a Rockwell air
drill 4 countersink stops 12 countersink bits (only 3 were sizes I
will need) and 20 drill bits (again only 3 or 4 sizes I needed) and
many misc small tools. This is just one way to aquire your tool kit
if you have a couiple of weeks to get things.

Bill,
Years ago when I built my RV-4 I purchased most of my tools from ATS. Since the early 1980's Avery, Cleveland and other suppliers have emerged. Many of the items sold by the tool suppliers are made by other vendors and are the same product. However there are many items that are made exclusively for or by Avery, Cleveland, US tool, ATS.
As far as quality, I can't say that any ATS tool has failed me, but I believe most of the tools I purchased were made by other manufactures and sold through ATS.
One tool that is one of the more expensive tools is the rivet squeezer. Avery, Cleveland both have designed their hand squeezer to accept the standard interchangeable pneumatic yoke. So this means you can purchase a hand squeezer and swap the yokes with a pneumatic squeezer (highly recommended).
I own two ATI hand squeezers with swivel yokes (ATI proprietary-purchase for $30 at a swap meet) and a pneumatic squeezer. If I were purchasing new I would purchase my squeezers from Avery or Cleveland so I could use the interchangeable standard yokes. In my book the longeron yoke is a must have.
