Home -> RV-10 topic: Elec Fuel Pump Question

Author: "Bob Condrey" <bob.condrey@...> Time: Wed Dec 8, 2004 4:49 pm PST Link

What have people put in for the electric fuel pump & filter (injected
engine)? Van's shows kits using the AFP pump & filter for the RV-7
& -8 but nothing for the -10 yet. When I called them the response
was simply that they didn't have one yet, but I'm sure that I've seen
one installed in somebody's fuselage pictures.

I checked the AFP website to see if there were different model pumps
for different engine sizes but it was less than helpful.

How about trying a Duke's Pump? Hi press. 25# IIRC. That's what
I'm putting in my IO-360 and all the Harmon Rockets are using them
for the big six bangers here in Bakersfield.

Hi Bob:

The mounts (see page 28-5 figure 2) are designed for the AFP pump and filter and Fuel Scan. The AFP pump will work for either AFP or the Bendix system on the I0 540. These systems require a pump capable of 20-25 lbs pressure. These pumps are readily available and are about half the cost of some of the older high pressure pumps, Aero Sport Power has them in stock.

The engine driven pump also has to be the high pressure pump, looks identical to the 4-6 pound pump used with a carburated engine.

Thanks Eustace. I also got an email from Scott at Van's last night.
He said that they used the RV-7 AFP kit for their RV-10.

Hi Bob:

Further to my post to you. if you have the manual for the RV 10 fuselage kit the detailed information on the installation of the AFP pump and filter is on (page 37-4) and Van's catalog has them listed.

I do have the manual - that's in part what generated the question.
When looking at Van's website, in addition to showing the pump and
filter seperately, it shows a package with some additional "stuff"
for the RV-7 and RV-8 (different packages). If there is additional
fittings, etc. required and they had a package I was just going to
order it. The -10 kit appears to include the bracket and clamp for
mounting so that would seem to reduce the question to what plumbing,
fittings, etc. actually come with the pump.

I guess I'll just order the pump and filter as seperate items and
deal with it...

I used the same one for the other engines. I called the manufacturer and they said to use the same one. Randy
