Home -> RV-10 topic: tailcone stabilizer trim motor cables - everyone please read

Author: n213rv@... Time: Wed Dec 15, 2004 12:35 am PST Link

I had a tough time running the cables through, but was able to do it.

I had a nut break off of the plate also. After further inspection, I found
out the base (small 1" square part) was made of ferrous metal, and the nut
was made of stainless steel. This piece broke fairly easily at the weld. The
other part I had was all stainless steel and I could not get it to break no
matter how hard I tried. I had a friend who has a -10 and his was also mixed
(ferrous metal base with rust! and stainless steel nut), which we were able
to snap apart with just our hands (it did take some pretty good force, but we
just used our hands). I called Vans and they said it was OK to weld the 2
dissimilar metals, but I requested they send me 4 new all stainless parts and
they did. Funny thing is my kit is #40013, his is #40252. My guess is the
ones that are breaking are mixed metal.

Y'all may want to check yours out......

Yes, they do appear a bit cheesy. Worth looking into for sure, I don't feel like practicing runaway pitch trim procedures. Sometimes you have to kick youself or someone else does to remind you this has to fly someday.

Thanks Mike.
