Home -> RV-10 topic: Newbie with questions

Author: "renefelker1" <renefelker1@...> Time: Mon Dec 20, 2004 9:24 pm PST Link

I got clearance from the "war department" to order the kit and now
the questions start. I have been watching the group for a while
but need a couple of opinions before the kit arrives.

1. Since I wil be evicting my car from the garage, how much room
does it take to do the VS? In a two car garage can I park the car
and work on the VS?

2. Any recommendations on a good software or web package for the
builders log?

I am sure I will have more.

Thanks

Rene'

Make sure to have an "airplane" camera at hand at all times. Doesn't need to be fancy, 35mm with flash or a cheap digital. Take LOTS of photos and LOTS with you in them. Someone drops by to chat, show off what your doing and have them take the picture. KABONG (A picture is worth a thousand words)

You can complete the entire empennage in one side of your garage.
However, you will have to move the car out to temporarily mate the parts
together.

Rene',

As others have said, you will have plenty of room to build in half of
a two car garage. In fact, the space issue really comes from storage
space for completed parts. The completed HS, VS, elevators and
rudder can easily be hung for storage. The final integration of
tailcone with the VS, HS, etc. does take quite a bit of space but it
doesn't take long and then you disassemble for storage. The tailcone
itself is pretty large and although I've seen at least one build hang
it from the ceiling, it just wouldn't work in my shop. Similar
situation with the wings - many of us have made rolling carts to
store them, but I needed to move mine out of the shop to have enough
room for the fuselage.

I'm also using Kitlog - works fine.

Welcome aboard!

Congrats....You need to have your War Department talk
to my War Department. I should be shortly behind you
depending on how the tax returns look :-)

My -6A could have been done in a one car garage, but
two car sure was nice. For the tail sections, one car
garage is plenty. That's what I currently have to
work with.

Since you asked about a builder's log, I sell Kitlog
Pro, and would be happy to answer any questions that
you might have. Currently it is PC based, but soon we
will have web publishing capabilities. You can learn
more at http://www.kitlog.com.

Welcome to the group!
