Home -> RV-10 topic: Tank dimple/countersink question

Author: n213rv@... Time: Wed Dec 29, 2004 7:30 am PST Link

In the instructions it states to machine countersink the tank skin to the
rear baffle, but I did not see anywhere as to what to do on the T1005 Tank
attach bracket? This is the part that sticks out the side of the tank on the
inboard side with the flange bearing on it.

The tank attach bracket is .063 and I think it would be better to dimple the
skin and countersink the baffle, rather than machine countersink the skin
only. Seems like there would be more surface area for sealing this way.

What are others doing?

Thanks
-Mike

I just did this step myself last night. Since it is .063 it is way
to thick to dimple so you have to countersink the tank attach bracket
and then dimple the skin. When you countersink the T1005 bracket,
cleco the top flange of both the left and right one together in every
other hole, this way when you countersink it for the dimple, you
won't loose your pilot hole. Then simple reverse which one is on top
to do the other one. Then flip over and do the same on the bottom
flange. It worked great for me.

I believe that I did countersink my attach bracket and dimple the
skin holes... including the little accouterments on the inboard side
of the 1005 outside the tank.
