Are there RV4 owners who have increased the length of the landing gear
so that a complete stall can be accomplished during a 3-point
landing? I have read on other boards that the 4 and 3 will not stall
completely during a true 3-point landing - is that true?

Deane;
We have SEVEN RV-4's in my F16 SQ now, Three of them have the long
gear on them with 180 C/S. I have flown both types extensively and
can tell you this. Yes, on the short gear, the tailwheel will strike
first on a "very short" field, three point, full stall landing. Is it
bad, no. Do you make that landing often, probably not. Would I
sacrifice the lost forward taxi visibility I noticed on the long gear
birds to do an extensive/expensive mod, INCLUDING buying a new engine
mount, no.( the long gear won't fit in the old mount). The advantage
of the long gear is prop clearance and AOA in the flare. Would I
modify a short gear that's flying fine?
I wouldn't...

I flew our first RV-4 700 hours with the short gear and I liked it
much better than the long gear ,which came with the finish kit for
our present RV-4. I had no trouble getting in or out of short fields
and the taxi visibility was a whole lot better. I wouldn't see any
advantage in going to the trouble and expense of changing over.
