Has anyone used the Beggs/Muller technique to recover from an spin?
1. Close the throttle
2. Take your hand off the stick
3. Apply full opposite rudder
4. When the rotation stops neutralize the rudder and pull out of the dive
Does it work with the RV-4

I have spun my 4, and I used the recovery technique in the builders manual. It spins much like an Aeronca Champ; that is much more nose up than a Cessna 150. I am not looking at my builders manual now, but as I recollect, the procedure is:
1.. Close the throttle.
2.. Brisk forward stick to the neutral position.
3.. Rudder opposite spin.
4.. Wait while world goes about another 1/2 turn.
5.. Neutralize stick and recover from dive.
As I remember, Van did not put spins in the class of "Sport Aerobatics". They are dangerous in an improperly loaded airplane, and the sensations are not conducive to clear thinking when they suddenly happen. If haven't done spins recently in something else, I recommend you go get some dual in a decathlon or some other similar airplane. And don't do spins with someone in the back of a RV-4.
Be careful,
Brent

Hi Jim;
I haven't tried the technique you mention however, I have spun my
RV4 extensively and use the Wright/Brothers, USAF technique....
RECOGNIZE and RECOVER- throttle idle, full opposite rudder to spin
direction, neutral to forward stick to break the stall, don't exceed
G's or Airspeed on recovery. A light nosed 4 will take up to a 1/2
turn beyond spin recovery application to begin recovery, a heavy
nose 180 c/s will stop on a dime like a pitts or Decathlon. Aileron
in the direction of the spin and application of power greatly
increase spin RPM. Recovery is straightforward.
If you really want to do spins in your RV4, get some training, get
a chute and don't do them below 5,000 AGL, unless you know what
you're doing, and DON'T do them with a rear seat pax...
