Hi everyone -
First - thanks to those who take time to answer questions for those of us who are pursuing information!
My -4 (bought it - didn't build it) has the rudder "pedals" (they are actually a short piece of tube to put your foot on) in the RCP that are hinged below the floor and have a connected to the FCP via a tube. The one time I have been in the back, I was not really thrilled with the control feel/performance of these "pedals".
At OSH this year, I saw one RV-4 with a pedal that might be considered more traditional (top hinge), but did not find the builder/owner to talk to.
I do hold the FAA exemption so I can do RV transition in the plane, and have found insurance to do same... but I need to get more satisfactory control authority on the RCP rudders before doing any training.
Does anyone have any ideas/experiences/solutions?
thanks,
Jim

BE CAREFUL! The RV4 builders manual states that the RV4 was not
designed to be landed from the rear seat, trust me, I wouldn't want
to give dual from the pit unless the front seater had their @#$%
together, ie.. experienced TD pilot.
I designed a pair of rudder "tabs" that actually attach to the
rudder cables next to your toe with clamps and work well enough to
fly it from the back, landing is another matter altogether. Rear seat
footwells help too. I would train people in a Luscombe ot Tcraft
first, then put them in the RV4 backseat to feel it out, then move
them up front.
