Hi,
Thank you for the responses to my recent questions.
At last I've got to the riveting stage! The Rear Spar is complete
with all hinge brackets. After the 100 or so rivets I must admit my
hands and arms were a bit on the tired side. Hand squeezing is not so
easy to do as I'd imagined. It took a lot more power to squeeze the 4-
7's. Was it me or my technique? Does anyone have any tips on the
method that works for them, surely I must be doing something wrong.
The final squeeze needed so much power some rivets were not as
perfect as I would have wanted them to be, (slightly clinched).

The other thought I had was in order to keep my project as light as
possible what parts can be lightened? Has anyone catalogued all the
parts and worked out the weight saving? I don't want to be silly
about it, but if there are easy weight savings to be had I'd be
interested to know where and what they are. Start as you mean to go
on.

Thanks again to all the -4 builders for their responses. It's nice to
know that lot's of other people have been in my position and I'm not
doing this for the first time ever.

Kind regards,

Andy

Andy, when I finished my acft, I borrowed a pneumatic squeezer for a while. If I hadn't been almost done, I would have gone out that day and bought one! You are at the point that you can do something about it! Buy a rebuilt one, or see if some builder is done, and would like to recoup some of the tool cost to put into avgas.

You will never regret getting one, but if you don't, you will regret not doing it...
