I am considering re-doing my RV-4 panel and lowering the bottom edge of it by
about 1.5 inches. I have mocked up a panel in my plane and I can get in and
out OK and I don't hit my knees on it, but I am worried about taking 1.5" off
of my stick. I am 5'10" and I have by rudder pedals as far forward as I can.
Has anyone out there done this, and if so how is the stick at 1.5" lower?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hey, Mike...better idea, just go fly it and hold the stick at 1.5 inches from the top! See how you like the difference.

I flew an RV4 doing a pre-purchase for a friend that had the shorter
stick. It had less aileron control response, due to less mechanical
advantage. One option would be to put your stick in a bender and
make it look like an "S" and retain the height but move it aft...RV8
guys do that since the dash is lower...
Instead of lowering my panel, I just went to smarter EI gauges and
now the Dynon EFIS replaces everything to where you only need it and
a engine scanner...
good luck.
