Home -> RV-4 topic: Empty weights

Author: "Tim" <rv4mation@...> Time: Wed Apr 14, 2004 6:47 am PDT Link

Could those of you who have "finished" your RV-4's give me an idea
of your empty weight and how you equipped your plane (day VFR,
day/night VFR, IFR, "deluxe" IFR, engine/prop type, etc.)? I'm
trying to get some real world numbers so I can make some equipment
decisions. (I know, "Keep it light!")

Thanks.

Tim,

My RV-4 weighs 986 with a Lyc o-360 180 hp and a 12 pound weight on
the flywheel so I can haul more weight in the back. It is equiped
for day/nite VFR. I mounted a Garmin GPSMAP 195 in the panel, it has
a turn coordinator, but no AH or DG. There is also a garmin xponder,
an SL-30 com, and all the usual flight and engine guages. I have
seats by Cleaveland, and put 1/2" foam on the firewall and under the
floorboards. Other than that, it's pretty spartan. Cruise is 160
knots at 8000 ft and about 50 % power. Climb rate is impressive, it
always pegs my 2000 ft/m meter, even when loaded.
