Took the day off yesterday and "drove" over to SnF (my RV-4 is still
in the fuselage jig). The WX was terrific and there was a great
turn-out . . .Lots of people & planes. Went straight to homebuilt
parking as soon as I got there to check out the RVs and saw some
really nice ones! It seems the bar gets raised higher every year. I
get alot of inspiriation and good ideas from looking at all the
finished RV-4s and talking to the pilots (although I've yet to get a
ride in one).

Van's tent had moved a little from where they usually are (which
threw me off for a minute), and the RV-10 wasn't there, but they had
three other factory planes on display as well as a -7 QB
kit . . .it's AMAZING how much of that kit is already finished
compared to my -4 kit.

Didn't watch alot of the airshow, although it literally grabbed your
attention at times, especially during the warbird "bombing" runs and
later during the F-16 flight demonstration - I wondered if that was
Smokey at his day job, since I didn't see the Bandit on the
flightline.

I chose to spend some of the airshow time walking through the vendor
displays. Got to hold one of the Dynon EFIS-10 displays & I must
say I was very impressed . . . it seems well made and the menus are
really straightforward; unlike some of the GPS units I've seen, you
don't need to take a class to figure out how to operate it. Dynon
also had a new engine monitoring display at the show that was not
ready for market yet, but they hoped to have it out by mid-summer.
It had the same physical appearance as the EFIS-10, but with
graphical engine displays for most everything you might want.

Probably the most exciting event for me happened while I was walking
through the vendor hangars. Most unexpectedly, I just happened to
bump into Mr. Scott Crossfield, legendary X-15 test-pilot, and the
guy who recently coached the Wright Flyer pilots. Well, I made sure
I said hello and shook his hand! He probably thought I was a
blubbering idiot, but he was very nice anyway. I don't know what it
is, but you sure run into some of the nicest people within the
aviation community.

Well, there was a LOT more, but you'll have to go see for
yourself . . .
