I had been in the process of looking for a location/shop to rent or
buy when I got laid off at the aerospace company I had been working
at. Soooo building an rv-7 has been put on hold. Must have
priorities?
I will order my empennage after I re-secure some roots. I have
plenty of airframe and component experience to take on a project like
this. I also have plenty trade related tools to do the job as well.
For the time being, I am compiling hints and tips that I have
researched on news groups and from builder pages. It makes
interesting reading material.

Tim,
It doesn't take much room to start. The emennage can be built in a bedroom.
(I know a guy who did this.) You really do not need a "shop" until assembling
the fuse. And then, only a 2 car garage will do. I built all of my RV6A in a
2 car garage which really only had about 2/3 's real space do to all the
other junk in it also. I recommend having the project as close as possible to
your kitchen, bedroom, in other words, at HOME. Once you get it to a shop or
at the hanger, building progresses slower. My 6 is now at the hanger for
finishing. It's much harder to get anything done on it now. (Even though I'm
about finished.)

Not trying to get on my soapbox, but after an extremely nasty break
up with the X and loosing my house and the BIG shop to the %#&! I
have had to start over. I have been apartment dwelling for the last
5 years and feel that my current spouse (you'd think I'd
learned) isn't going to do the same thing to me as the last.
When I said that I was looking for a shop, I meant that I was looking
for a shop that has a house out back or something. My priorities
include buying a new place then start the project. The bitch of it
is my X-best friend is now enjoying the shop I built for such a
project. He married her...
I am waiting on funding for a job offer that will set me up and take
me out of this state (Everett, WA). Then I will be able to carry on
as planned. This has been a life long dream of mine that has always
been interrupted by my X spouse.
