I need flight, NOT building experience for my RV-7A.

I don't have enough night flying experience to know, but I want to
build my RV-7A with that capability. I had ordered two of the
Duckworks kits with my wing under the simple assumption thjat more
light was better.

Now I've read threads that indicate the "landing" angle for the light
fixture is different from the taxi angle desired, and I don't know if
the guy making the comment was flying conventional or tri-gear.
Having heard that the standard Duckworks 55 watt halogens
provide "marginal" lighting, I'm leaning toward using HID lights with
the Ductworks brackets. BUT, they're expensive! So, if I can use
one HID light and get good night performance that's what I'd like to
do.

The question for your cumulative experience is this: If one landing
light were used on a RV-7A, if it is optimized for "taxi" lighting
will that provide appropriate light for landing, or should it be
optimized (in terms of bracket angle set) for landing?

I have two of the Duckworks lights on my 6A... one is set for taxi and one
for landing.
This works out great. If you are only going to install one, I would recommend
it be set for landing.

I have 2 lights.
THe 55 watter seems to do well for me. I land on a wide long paved
strip . I too have one positioned for taxi, and the other for
landing. The taxi one actually works on landing well cause it shows
me the ground as I decide to flare, and the landing one shows me the
way.

These lights have been working well in many rv's for years.
Stick with em, use 2. Cheap safety

You can always replace the lamps with the 100 watt if you are not happy with
the output. Just be sure to run the appropriate wire size for 100 watt
lamps.

This is exactly what we have done to our RV 6A. I have a 100 watt in
the landing light & a 55 watt in the taxi (only because it was already
there). Make sure you upgrade the wiring if need be.
