ALLAN,
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
I HAVE A PIPE WITH A 1/2" SQUARE DRIVE WELDED TO THE END TO USE A CROWS FOOT OPEN END WRENCH. AS I RECALL IT'S 3 FEET LONG, SO YOU TAKE THE REQUIRED TORQUE, DIVIDE BY 3 FEET (IF IN FOOT-POUNDS) TO OBTAIN THE LOAD ON THE END OF THE PIPE TO OBTAIN THE REQUIRED TORQUE. WE USED A SCALE ON THE END OF THE PIPE WHILE TORQUING. WORKED ON MY O-360 WITH A HARTZELL.

Any ideas on how to torque the 5/8 prop bolts on my Hartzell c/s prop
attatched to a 0-320 engine. Special tool it way too expensive to
purchase for minimal time one would use it.
Would anyone have this tool to borrow?

Thanks for the reply. I am in Ohio. Will keep your suggestion in
mind, but will inquire with snap on up at Oshkosh next week to see if my
torque wrench has a detachable head that I can put an open end wrench
head in place of the socket drive. If not, may have to bite bullet for
tool, but will also enquire of other prop manufacturers.

You don't necessarily need a special extension. Just use an ordinary
combination wrench as an extension. Use a short bolt and nut to
connect the combo wrench to the socket on your torque wrench (and,
obviously, do the calculations to account for the extension).
