Neil --

I'm not there yet myself, but from the builders I've talked to over
the past seven years (I'm on a very sloooooooooooow schedule), most
skinned the HS by themselves.

Throw on a sweatshirt (if weather permits) to avoid scratches, use
your left hand to buck and the right to drive the rivets. Be careful
not to deform the skins as you pull them back to reach your arm back
there.

Good luck.

You can probably do it yourself but it is much easier with help.  At least on the first side.  You will only need help for about an hour or so per skin.  One thing that I was glad I did was rivet the top side of each skin first.  The second side of the skin is the more difficult of the two and I made more mistakes there but they are all on the bottom because I did the top first.  Opps my wife and Idid the top.  I did the bottom by myself and that was no problem.

I'm just about ready to rivet on the HS skins (finally!) and am
wondering if it's possible to do a good job without help. I'd hate to
ruin all my good work (and rework) at this stage. On the other hand
help is going to be hard to come by and schedule. Anyone else going
solo on this?

Neil,
DON'T get some help! I was trying to see if I could do it and I
finally came to my senses (about time) and got my wife to help me. I
ran the bucking bar and she drove the rivet and it came out great!

This is a major concern for me. I am about to bite the bullet and purchase
the tail kit and tools.

Can anyone tell me what percentage of time is spent building where I will
need a partner to drive rivets? Should I just plan on trying to schedule
help when riveting skins? Thanks.

Hi Hugh.

I'm over 1,000 hours into my RV-6 standard kit and I would imagine
less than 20 hours of that time was with 'help'. Things that come to
mind are the actual riveting on of the wing and fuse skins. All the
prep work is solo.

Jump on in.....the water's fine!
