Home -> RV-7 and RV-7A topic: Pneumatic rivet squeezer

If Doug Reeves wants to be buried with his pneumatic squeezer, it obviously
won't be available on e-Bay :-). Avery has these puppies on sale at the
moment, but I can't tell whether the model they sell has a screw-adjustable
die set, or one that you have to put washers and different height dies in
to set the proper squeeze distance. Does anyone have one of these, or
know? I sent Avery e-mail on this several days ago but did not get a
response -- they may have great tools but they've got a ways to go as an
e-business...

Don,
<![if !supportEmptyParas]> <![endif]>
I just purchased one of the Avery pneumatic squeezers, and it comes with a bunch of washers to adjust the die set.  They also sell a screw adjust that can be used but it is an additional cost of about +/-$50.  (My catalog is at home and this is the number that I remember.)

Power of persuasion.  I just ordered one too, but found out a nice thing in doing it.  The Avery hand squeezer that I got with the standard RV tool package has a 3" yoke that is interchangeable with the pneumatic squeezer, so I was able to just order the squeezer body.  Also got the adjustable rivet set holder, since at last weekend's workshop we used a pneumatic squeezer on which we fiddled with the adjustment a lot for different tasks (dimpling, riveting different thicknesses of rib flange, etc.).

Dan,
The pneumatic squeezer sold by Avery is basically identical to the
Chicago Pneumatic squeezer. It does not come with an adjustable die set,
but I Highly recommend it. Also, the Avery hand squeezer has the same yoke
bolt pattern as the pneumatic one. I also recommend the quick change pins
that would replace the yoke bolts...I think they are only about $4. Watch
ebay, they quite often have yokes for about half price, I got a new 4" and
longeron yoke for $145 total. The pneumatic squeezer is the best tool I've
bought yet...

Take Care,
Max

To every RV builder out there!

The first two RVs I built I did with just a hand squeezer. For my RV-
7 I broke down and bought a pneumatic one from Avery Tools (only
because they had a special on them). I have used it and am kicking
myself all around the workshop for not having done it sooner.

Buy one, steal one, not matter how... just get one! It is the best
tool investment you will ever make.
