Home -> RV-7 and RV-7A topic: Engine debate - losing focus of the purpose of this list...(in the opinion of one)

To the group:

With all due respect to Jan and his engine business I have a comment
regarding the engine debate.

I have been watching this list (since it's inception) as I prepare to make
my first aircraft related purchases. There is really no question that this
list is extremely helpful in providing insight on many important issues
related to these decisions. I believe the intent of this forum is to allow
builders to exchange views, experiences and advice on all aspects of the
RV7/7A building (and flying) process.

The one thing that I find discouraging about this list is that by far the
person with the greatest number of posts is posting with the intent of
furthering a private business. It is my understanding that there are
forums that are specifically intended for this purpose outside of this
list.

The reason that I subscribed to this particular list was to tap into the
collective expertise of the group of builders who have been through (or are
going through) the very thing that I am about to go through. When I want
to learn about particular products, I know that I can search the
appropriate resources when that time arrives. I don't want to have to wade
through a pile of postings that are better suited to a personal or
commercial website and/or a list that is set up for that specific purpose
just to find the answer to a question I have about building my airplane.

It is not my intention to "flame" anyone with this posting. I just wanted
to voice a concern I have for the usefulness of this forum. I may very
well chose to go with one of Jan's subaru engines when the time comes. I
will keep up to date on those important developments (hopefully) by
watching Jan's website and the other lists.

Thanks,

Rob

Somewhere in the Van's literature it is stated the best conversion is
to convert your money to a Lycoming...

And on the inside back cover of Sport Aviation is a full page color ad
where
Van's sell Lycoming engines.... I would also recommend the engines I
sell...

And a long time ago Burt Rutan
said about the same thing with the EZ's.

Burt never said not to search for better alternatives, he said "don't use a

VW engine."
