Hello:
I go nuts when I encounter down time due to missing
parts, parts I screw up, or next-stage parts needed,
etc. When I encounter them I always end up having
them sent FedEx and it’s a drag when the part costs
$20 and the FedEx charge is $30! I should have
invested in some FedEx stock prior to starting this RV
project!
I just heard back from Vans on the lead-time for a 200
H.P. Lycoming engine. It’s currently 3-4 months. So
if you are taking that route, as am I, plan ahead –
don’t find yourself finished with everything and then
having to wait 3-4 months before you can continue –
that would KILL me!

Likewise, I'm buying my second engine from Bart at Aerosport Power.
If you want one of his new XP-360 engines, he can ship it in a couple
of weeks. But if you want one of his rebuilds, you have to wait
until summer when he expects to get some serviceable cores in.
BTW, my UPS driver knows me by name.

Randy,
The XP-360... that's the one from Superior Air Parts, correct? I've just
ordered a rebuild from Bart and yes, delivery will be around June. His
rebuilds use Superior's parts including the same cylinders as on the XP-360.
I'm real interested in following how your engine works out. This RV-7 I'm
building surely will not be my last and it's nice to have more options.
Please keep us posted.

Clifford; I haven't made up my mind on engine to go with yet. What is
your reasoning on going with a 200 Horse engine. Doyle

I hope to put a runway on my 25 acres complete with a
hanger. At the end of my land, my neighbor has some
tall trees in which I hope never to land! I figure
the more power the safer takeoffs from my runway might
be. Also, the idea of someone else passing me in an
RV or any other airplane rattles my cage! My secound
build project in the years to come may just be a
Harmon Rocket!

Clifford: The 7 I'm building is my second RV. I'm flying a 6A that I
built from a standard kit in 18 months. I don't think you can really
appreciate these new kits unless you have built one the old way. You said
you were going to put a runway on 25 acres. I hope it is laid out long. I
flew my 6A off my funway on its first flight. My runway is 1,000' long
with wires at the north end. I have a E2D 150 horse. If I slow it down
and do things right I take off and land in about 700' light. with the
kind of horse power your talking about you should be able to get out real
short. Geting back in will be a little trickey. If I can sell my 6A for
a desent price I will go with a 180 and constant speed. The 180 is a must
the constant speed is not. Keep building. Doyle
