Here is a URL to an EAA article explaining the intended direction for
future AVGAS.

AVGAS will always be available, just not leaded AVGAS.

Bob,

Thanks for the info on 91/98 fuel. I attended a forum on the 100LL
problem at OSH last summer. There is an industry/government high
powered committee working on the problem but there are no easy answers.

The reason the 91/98 no lead idea was dropped in 1968 is that high
compression, fuel injected engines can not use it. Many light twins
would be without fuel as would be the 0360 200 HP. That still is an
issue but evidently it is not as important as it was, 91/98 is on the
table again and as the article says, 90% of GA could use without any
modifications and that includes the Lycoming 0360/180HP.

It was stated at the forum that Lycoming and Continental are able and
willing to build engines to meet the EPA pollution standards but no
airplane manufacturer would commit to using them. The bottom line is
money as always. The airframe manufacturers do not want to recertify if
they did not have to and the Feds have not forced the issue because they
have higher priority pollution fish to catch at this time.

Time is running out though. Some day, when the aviation lobby is weak,
they will turn the screws in on 100LL and shut it down. It may not
happen before they do it to the trucking industry, but it is coming.
