I am about to rivet the rudder. Should I drill & dimple the holes for
the rivet that will attach the tip now? Or later? Or does it make a
difference?

Which rivets are used to attach the tip? CS4-4 like the bottom?

Anything to know about using the RTV compound to join the ends of the
rib stiffeners?

Thanks for the help.

Roy,

Most drill the holes after the part is completed. They are at the
ends where you can get to them so there's no need to drill the holes
now (unless you really want to).

Regarding the RTV, it is important to use RTV to tie the ends of the
upper and lower reinforcing angles together. It keeps them from
vibrating and causing cracks in the skin at the last rivet. Just
enough of a glob to fill the void and touch both angles. Don't do
this until you have bent the skin to it's final shape and are ready
to rivet it to the spar. BTW, I think the right rivet is the CS4-4.
I intend to use #4 stainless screws on all tips. I think it looks
better than rivets and it is certainly better than bondo (which is
what I did on my RV-6 and regretted it).
