Home -> RV-7 and RV-7A topic: 51%?

Author: "tjsdaddy" <wesis@...> Time: Tue Jan 1, 2002 4:52 pm PST Link

Hey guys,

I am new to the board, I have been reading for a few weeks, and
learning a lot!! Thanks

I am curious, Vans site says all kits meet 51% rule, I was just
reading the new AeroCrafter and it shows all but the 7 & 7A as 51%.
Is this true or a mistake. Has anyone checked with the FAA to see if
they ARE on the list?

I was just getting ready to order the emp kit, but don't know now if
the 7A is on the 51% rule list. Any help on this would be greatly
appreciated.

No need to check all of Vans's kits meet the 51% rule. If they did not
it would not make a lot of sence in building one. The whole reason to
build one is so that you can do all the work on it, and sign off all
your own work! If it did not meet that rule you could not :-(

Quit messing around and order that kit! :-)

Thanks Bob,

I was pretty sure they were, but I was just a little concerned when I
noticed that the 7 & 7A were the only ones not shown as being 51%
compliant in the AeroCrafter. Maybe it was just published before
they had past inspection. Even though the 8 & 8A & 9A were shown as
being 51% compliant.

The 7 and 7A are so new that mention of them is even missing from some
parts of Van's own publications. Such as for example, the plans, where
they tell you to build a big H jig for your empennage and wings, but the
dimensions needed for the -7 jig are not on the -7 drawing, only the
dimensions for 6, 8, and 9! Just think of the 7 as a 'easier to build 6'
(with thick skins and 200 ponies ;-) ), like Van's website refers to it.

The Aerocrafter has several very suspicious and *wrong* entries.
They sometimes list bogus specs and perf. data.

HEY so where do I find the proper dimensions for the H jig and any
OTHER information that isn't complete in the RV7 plans?!!!!!!!

Do the RV7 builders have a list available of these corrections?

Thanks, G

I don't remember exactly where I found it but the measure between the
horizonal beams is 114". I do know you can find it on one of the wing
drawings.

On the pre plans I just started building from, the dimension is on figure 6-1. That's the drawing of the H-Jig. It is underneath the box that has the dimensions for the 6 and 9, on it's own line. I looked at it several times before I realized it was hiding in plain sight.
