Just finished installing my flaps. Sure wish I’d read
the section on flaps from www.vansaircraft.net – under
“Things I’d Do Different.”
Below are some thoughts I found under that section
which sounded good to me. I hope before the end of
this project I learn to read the archives – EVERY note
about a particular section BEFORE I work on it.
Flap thoughts:
Throw away the folded soft hinge supplied by Vans and
buy proper
extruded hard hinge. Lasts longer, stronger and far
more airworthy
On my six, I removed three or four eyes out of the
hinge in the middle, made the hinge pin in two pieces
and inserted them from the middle. They come out easy
for removing the flap if necessary. I put a 90 degree
bend on the end which sticks out about 3/16 inch, just
enough to grab onto with small vice grips.
