I'm looking at getting started on a RV-7 or a. I was planning on getting one
of the kits as a quick build Fuse or Wings, while I'm working on the other.
With your guys experience which kit should I get as the QB? Wing Or Fuse?
Also I'm looking for the pros and cons between the 7 and 7a. I know the a
will be eaiser to land over all and handle on the ground but besides the
slightly higher cruise are there any other up sides to the 7?

I recommend both (QB's - wing and fus.) - the work is
awesome and unless you are an experienced builder - it
would be difficult to match the quality.
If you order the QB wings - they will not take long to
finish (only a week or so) - so be prepared to order
the next stage soon - and if you then want the QB
fuselage - you'll be looking at quite a wait.
My STRONG suggestion would be to order them both at
the same time. Also, with my wings they backordered a
part - so I was unable to progress much on the wings
and so was very glad to have the rest of the kit on
the other side of the garage.
If you have nothing yet - get the tail and if it moves
along nicely you should have no problems with the rest
of the kit.
Before I started my kit I kept asking how long it
would take to build - then after I got the kit - I
realized who cares - it's a blast. Worrying about how
long it takes to build might be likened to worrying
about how long it might take to go on a camping trip -
who cares - it's a fun thing. Hands down this is the
most exciting project I've ever jumped into.
Order up that kit and good luck.

I think the wings would be a better choice to buy as a
quickbuild, just because of the prosealed tanks and
having them already pressure tested. The fuse goes
together pretty quickly, actually.
As far as a 7 or 7A, that's a whole new debate. The
tail dragger looks cooler on the ground and in the
air. The A is very easy to handle on the ground and
to land is an absolute breeze. For someone without
tail tragger time, I say go with the A. It will save
you money in insurance and tailwheel training. Resale
is supposed to be a little easier for an A model as
well.
Don't let others influence you on the
tailwheel/nosewheel decision. Go with what you think
you would be most happy with. Many tailwheel guys
have had zero tailwheel time and found that the RV's
are very forgiving for a tailwheel airplane. For me,
the total time I had, lack of tailwheel time, and
price of insurance sold me. Speed is a non issue.
With my wood prop, I usually keep up with anyone in a
tailwheel, unless they are flying with a constant
speed, and then the tailwheel/nosewheel issue is not a
factor anymore.

To 7 o to A that is the question. Be nice to have both. To answer your
question. In my opinion the 7 will take the dirt and grass strips better.
You have to baby your nose gear, at least i do. They won't take a lot of
abuse. I'm flying a 6A that I built and in the process of building a 7A.
I would like to have both but I can't so I opt for the A. Its a real
dilemma.

Well Britt, welcome to the world of Internet advice!!! You will get
advice on both sides of every question so ultimately, you'll have to
make your own decision.
I ordered a standard wing kit and a quickbuild fuselage. My reasons
(which may or may not apply to you) are:
1) Although the wings have more rivets, in my opinion (having built a
RV-6 already) it is easier riveting.
2) The pre-punched wings don't require a jig but the fuselage does
(and a big one too).
3) It just fit my building schedule better. It takes between 6 and 9
months to get a quickbuild anything. I will have the wings done by
then.
With regards to a the tail dragger/nose dragger argument, I built and
flew a tail dragger without any previous experience. It was a joy to
land and fly. I'm building a nose dragger simply because I already
built a tail dragger. To me, it makes no significant difference
although I personally like the looks of the tail dragger better. I
think Paul's advice is a good one......Build the one "you" want and
don't let others unduly influence you. Even if you don't have any
previous tail dragger experience, you will be able to handle it. It
will cost you more in terms of insurance and (maybe a little) in
resale.
Good luck and get that order in. You know you're going to do it so
do it now!
