I was wondering if anyone is tracking their costs on their engine
installation close enough to comment on Van's new FWF package costs?
I am still debating slow build costs vs. possible time savings on the
quick build options. If I went quick build I think it would be
fuselage only. My idea would be to complete the tail and wing just in
time for the fuse to arrive. In the final analysis based on the
comments on how improved the 7 kit is vs. previous kits, I'll
probably go with a full slow build kit and use the money saved on a
CS prop.

John,
Go to the FILES section and click on "N524RP". Inside I have a
spreadsheet of the detail costs of my RV-7A, broken down into
different components. One of the tabs is "firewall foreward".
I did a quick "apples-to-apples" comparison and excluded from my list
the engine, exhaust, prop, governor, and few other things. My total
is $3100. I'm pretty sure this is nearly everything that I will need
for my firewall foreward package since I'm modelling it after what I
installed in my RV-6.
I quickly read through Van's list. There were a few things on there
that I wouldn't need and a few things that I need that aren't on
there. I think it is a good package for anyone that doesn't have any
idea what might be needed. I would suggest folks visit other
builders or peek in the engine compartments at Oshkosh to get ideas.
There are a million ways to do the same thing.
