To the guys well into their wings.
I'm not planning to use the bent aluminum tube as a pitot cause it's just
too fragile. The price is high (for what it is) for a the regular style so
I can understand why the cheapo is offered.
My question is, why not a used one from an aircraft salvage yard? Does
anyone know of such a yard or have trade-a-plane that would list the salvage
companies?
Has anyone done this and how difficult was it to adjust/modify/install etc.
Sounds like this may save some $ for other instruments.

Fragile? It is steel. It can't be that fragile. Not to mention, there shouldn't be anything touching it any way. Van's pitot tube is just fine, and I think the $15 or so that it costs is worth it, considering what you might have to go through finding a salvage pitot, modifying it, mounting, etc. My philosophy, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And I can attest (along with thousands of others) that Van's cheap pitot tube works just fine.

Sorry about the first reply...work computer is not set up like my home
computer...
Anyway, as I was typing, I ordered the heated pitot from Gretz Aero. It is
a much nicer setup, especially if you might be flying in humid conditions
(you don't have to be flying in clouds to get freezing moisture). The price
of the pitot tubes has doubled in the last month or so, but Warren still has
a few at the old price (though I think he may be out of the heated
pitot/static at the old price). The steel pitot from Vans is sturdy, but I
wanted a heated one...
Take Care,
Max

Bevan:
get the stainless steel one from Vans - only $12.00 -
p#: VENT P-100
you won't get a salvage yard to take one off for less
than than.

I picked up a heated piper vertical mast from White Industries ( you can find
them in trade-a-plane) it about 4 inches tall has both pitot and static source.
Cost me $125.00 .
i think they had one left.
G Clabots 70188 wings almost done.
