Home -> RV-7 and RV-7A topic: Self Promotion

Come on guys, don't let this happen here. This kind of thing already happens on the RV-List. If it is self promotion, then so be it. He has a service to offer to the homebuilt community and has a right to defend his product. I don't see him sending an email every week to the list saying "New Subaru Engine For Homebuilts". Alternative engines are a way of the future in aviation, and this subject should not be hindered on the fact that someone feels self promotion is not appropriate.

I promote my software in my signature every time I send an email. If it's builder related, then leave it alone. If it is spam, then all together it is an issue.

If self promotion really bothers you, then don't read the emails from the people that self promote.

Thanks Paul,

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And everyone just
remember...there is a Subject line to each message and a DELETE key on

is supposed to be fun.

I agree with Paul. It would be one thing if the list was just another address in Jan's marketing list that he used to send out announcements and such, but when he makes a post it is usually either to let us know that another RV is flying with his engine or he is answering comments that were made about his engine on this list. He is not hiding the fact that he is the supplier and as such anyone smart enough to build their own airplane should be smart enough to realize that his opinion is biased (as it should be). I wish that we had more suppliers willing to answer questions on this list. I would like to hear from the Dynon Development folks, the Delta Hawk guys, Rocky Mountain, Tru Trak Flight Systems... The list goes on and on. We are here to build airplanes and to do that we all need engines, instruments, avionics, etc. Knowing what is out there is half the battle, then trudging through the hype is the other half. This list helps us accomplish both.

Thanks for letting me vent. Godspeed all.

I just want to second Phil's letter. Jan's participation in this group is
considered by me an asset. We don't get the opportunity to discuss things
openly with other suppliers, so that should be considered a benefit. I wish
more would participate. I also think that, until more RV's are flying with
his engine package, that he is our best source of information. Once more
aircraft are flying, we will get to hear what others have to say. Until that
time, Jan does a good job of answering our concerns and questions and I
encourage that to continue.

These forums are for information exchange, and I see Jan's responses more in
line with that and less "advertising" than one expect from someone in his
position. And as someone else said earlier .... there's always the delete
key if you don't like it! :-)

Good day to all.
