How do you determine whether a Lycoming engine that is not one of
the 5 that Van's recommends / sells will fit on a RV (7A to be
specific). I keep looking around for used engines but I don't know
how to evaluate whether they will fit or not.

Thanks for any information or links that I can reference.

-Use section 11 of your Preview Plans or Builders Manual to work your
way back to a known engine. Somethings really matter (the placement
of the induction device) and others don't (type of magneto). It
takes some homework, for sure. The rumor that Lycoming once built
two identical engines has never been proven.
