A fellow RV-7 builder received his QB wings with a note saying that the fuel
tanks were fastened to the wings sufficiently for shipping only, and required
reinstallation. The tank fasteners appear to be complete and properly
torqued. He was told by someone at the factory to follow any instructions
included. My QB kit had no such notification (that I can find). Are we
supposed to reinstall the tanks?

Chris,
Mine were delivered in June, and the tanks were loosely fastened with
the screws. I thought that some operation might require their
removal, but if so, I have not come across it.
As a side note, My QB wings each had 17 rivets on the rear spar that
should not have been riveted, and had to be drilled out, which
surprised Vans a little.

Chris,
I'm building slow wings, but was puzzled by the instructions saying
to "install about 1/2 of the tank attachment bolts". I called Van's
and was told that when you install the wings there will be
instructions to remove the tanks to make the installation easier. I
told them that with all the extra things I installed (like tip tanks)
I really didn't want to remove the tanks. They said the wings could
be installed with the tanks on but that it was harder.
