Home -> RV-7 and RV-7A topic: RV7 Tip Up Canopy, Rear Canopy Latch, "Watch Out"

Author: "briantrv7" <briant@...> Time: Fri Oct 18, 2002 11:09 pm PDT Link

While preparing the canopy for for its final mounting on the canopy
frame I unlatched the side door latch and tried to lift the canopy
but it wouldn't budge. With the aircraft sitting in the taildragger
attitude, and the wiggling and jiggling about, the aft canopy latch,
WD621 rotated enough to latch the canopy in position. WD621 has one
side longer than the other and the weight difference was enough to
get it moving. Was I happy the rear window is sitting on a shelf and
not on the plane otherwise it would have been a real problem to get
the thing opened up. My plan is fashion some sort of friction device
or latching pins so the handle cannot move without some definite
effort. Any ideas would be appreciated. In the meantime try to
think of a way to get into a tip up when the thing is latched by
WD621, not a pleasant thought.
Thanks
