I mixed up the Van's tank sealant (MC-236-B2) yesterday at 2:30. I worked
with it for about an hour and got 7 of the stiffeners back riveted in place.
The material was starting to get thicker so I decided to stop and clean
things up while I still could.
I haven't touched the parts yet, but at 10: last night I could still move
the stir sticks (that I left in the extra mixed up sealant).
Now, about 24 hours later, I can still move the stir sticks. It is
different than at 10:00 last night. The sealant is a lot thicker and if I
pull and then let go, the sealant tries to go back to the same shape. If I
continue to pull the stick out of the sealant, the sealant first gets
thinner and finally seems to tear instead of just getting thinner and
thinner and forming small strings like it did yesterday.
Is this normal (the curing, not my slow work on the stiffeners)?
More details:
I mixed up 108 grams of one part with 11 grams of the second part (I should
have used 110 grams...) using an electronic postal scale.
The material has always stayed in the house which has been at 80 or below.
Yesterday was the first day I opened the can.
The expiration date is 12/02.
I mixed it in a high density polyethylene container using wooden craft
sticks.
I mixed it until the color was uniform and was careful to scrape the bottom
and sides of the container to make sure it was all mixed.
Thanks,
Brad

That sounds ok. It takes a long time to cure. I am about ready to start
my second tank assy.
