I was talking to my uncle recently, he is just about
finished with his rv6. He has heard from a friend of
his who also finished another airplane that he was
taxed based on the full amount of the airplane he
finished and not for parts. Here in NY it would be a
big amount since the RV would be appraised at about
$50,000.00 (A modest one) at least once it is done
while the parts are about $25,000.00. engine taxes are
separate. I like to know what is everyone doing with
regards to paying their taxes and if there is a way to
pay now taxes on the parts so you can't be taxed
again.

Oklahoma does the same thing. I guess the morons can't figure out
that they're just forcing you to mailorder everything to avoid double
taxation. If I had bought a rebuilt engine locally from one of the
three major rebuilders right here in Tulsa it would have cost me $2000
in taxes -- only to have it taxed again as Excise tax when I register
the plane. Made the choice to buy it from Vans real easy.
