What is the best method for dimpling the holes closest to the HS
skin's leading edge at the center of the skin? Do you just bend the
crap out of it and use the c-frame or use pop rivet dimple dies for
these few holes?
Thanks,
Jeff

I used the pop rivet dimple dies in a lot of places like you describe. I
would flex the skin some to use the c-frame, but I was uncomfortable flexing
it enough to get all of the holes closest to the leading edge.

Use whatever works.....Probably a pop-rivet dimpler or if you can get the
vice grip dimples in there that would work too.

Recommend the pop-rivet dimples as the C-Frame is
challenging, it is difficult to avoid smilies with the
amount of bend required.

Jeff, I'm asuming you mean the holes closest to the trailing edge
bend. Either method works ok. If you use the C-frame make sure you
get a helper to hold the skin open while you whack the die. If not
you run the risk of a crooked dimple or worse an extra hole. (I had
the latter!) I personally used the c-frame tool with a buddy.

I ran home at lunch and used the pop rivet dimple dies on the 4 holes in question. Worked like a charm! Thanks for the heads up.
Another case of having a bazillion airplane tools in your shop and not really knowing what they are all for yet having not done the sport air workshop gig or anything.
Thanks again.

Don't worry....You'll know what all the tools are for soon enough even without a workshop.
I just use common sense and if you follow that you will be 99.9% good.
As time goes on you become more confident in your own judgment as well....Just like everything else in life...The more you do the easier it gets.
Have fun

Jeff,
I built a welding bench with a 1/4" steel plate for the top a few years back. The top overhangs by 1 1/2". I drilled a #40 hole about 3/8" from the edge, and used my #40 countersink to match the female side of my dimple die. Now I lay the skin, rib, spar over this hole and use the male die to line up the part with the hole. Once lined up, I give it a couple of smacks and the dimple looks as good as any of the other pounded dimples.
