I just found this statement about the FAA Inspection process. Is this indeed part of the process?
QUOTING FROM AN ARTICLE ON THE INTERNET:
-------
Before you are issued an airworthiness certificate, an FAA
inspector will require an inspection of the aircraft and all
documentation of its construction. They used to require a
"pre-cover inspection of the internal structure, but no longer.
Now they prefer that in-progress inspections are done by an EAA
Technical Counselor, and the inspector will look for his/her
comments in the construction log.
----
Thanks!

The FAA likes to see if the EAA tech advisor inspections are done during the building process. It is not mandatory, but the FAA inspectors view it as an extra set of educated eyes watching over us homebuilders and are likely to be less scrutinous if you have participated in the Tech program.
The techs do not sign or make any entries in your builder's log, rather the builder will note the date of the tech inspection and the name of the EAA tech. The Tech does fill out an inspection form when he or she does the inspection, but this is submitted to the EAA, and the builder does not get a copy of the form or any other written acknowledgement of an inspection.
I had an EAA tech advisor inspect my first plane. When the FAA inspected it, they were pleased that I had done that, and generally were very easy to work with. My SeaRey passed it's inspection without a hitch.
I had the SeaRey inspected three times during the building process, and my inspector, along with two other homebuilders, did a pre FAA inspection just before the AC inspection.
I am having the FAA do the inspection on my RV7A rather than a designee. The FAA does it for free. If your work is good and your paperwork is correct, passing the AC inspection should be no problem.
