All aerospace companys have at least one person that is the "subject
matter expert". You folks should get organized and appoint a team of
subject matter experts. Just the other day I read a post from a
contributer who was well versed, very well qualified, and had many
years of spray painting experience. Use these people, they have a
wealth of experience to offer. Much of it is intuative, subtle, with
insite hard won. You cannot possibly learn, in the building of one
aircraft, what these people have spent a life time learning. I may be
out of line here but if I have to install a canopy, or an engine or a
MS20470 rivet, I want to hear from someone that does it frequently.
The web is such a valuable experience, I have no idea how we managed
to finish and fly scratch built airplanes in the 60's, 70's, and 80's.
Just venting and excited by the prospects. Sorry about any misspelled
words.

I can't speak for the other builders. But personally, I want to hear about experiences from everyone, whether "expert" or not. I don't want to disqualify anyone from speaking about what they have learned because they aren't "experts". This type of attitude will kill a forum.

my 2 cents

I really don't think that the original poster is suggesting
that "only" experts be considered for advice, and I don't think that
would "kill a forum".
In truth, much of what I/we learn from those who just plug away
without previous experience is quite valuable because some of the
mistakes they make can only be learned by doing (like: "When do I
rivet this panel to that panel etc., etc, etc.). I'm keeping a log of
those kind of issues that come up so I won't have to repeat the same
mistakes.

Both types of input are relevant because the non-pro buildiers can
tell us what NOT to do (with them absorbing the frustration of
mistakes) while the experienced can tell us what we SHOULD do. That's
all good information.

I'll also make the statement that there are going to be some areas of
installation having to do with my avionics and engine where, I'm
sorry, but I will feel a whole lot better taking advice from those
who have done it for a living rather than from those who "tried it
and it worked".

The problem is getting the pro's to step forward and be identified.
They might rather be building rather than teaching. While I have some
experience that might be considered "professional", many others have
similar experience in the same area so I'd just as soon let THEM
become online guru's.
I'm primarily offering my help and advice to just a couple of local
builders where I can provide some hands-on help in areas where it
does the most good. In return, I hope to tap into THEIR experience's
when my time comes. (Yes Phil and Dave, payback time is coming :-)
